I am 28, male and planning a 10-day tour of the South Island with Flying Kiwi starting end-November. I know it’s a very short time but can’t get away from work for longer :(

Would welcome views from the NZ experts on the following:
1. Is this the best option available or are there other cheaper, non-touristy alternatives that will let me see quite a bit in the short time? Would it be cheaper and easier by public transport?
2. Also, given a choice, is South Island a shade better than the North?
3. I will be in Wellington for a day before crossing over to Picton. What are the must-see must-do things in Wellington?
4. What is the cheapest option to travel from Wellington to Picton? How long is the journey?
5. Any opinions on Flying Kiwi?
Thanks in advance

The South is at least a million times better than the north island....more beautiful....more relaxed....more friendly.....and way more adventure....I did a 4 month trip around the south in a van i brought for $800 I had a tent in the back....there are plenty of free and very cheap department of conservation camping grounds...the beaches are unbelievable....dont miss the abel tasman national park in nelson...its like seeing heaven...take the ferry from welington to picton and make sure you go during the day...its worth the view....i could rave to you for hours how amazing the South is...but you will see and understand yourself...i reccomend the west coast trip over the east coast... have a blast....you will never meet or see anything so worthwile
