Hey, i am traveling the east coast of AUS this summer with 2 other friends, from Sydney to Cairns and we have decide to rent a campervan. We are all 20 and have full english driving licenses. It would be great if anyone had advice on

1 thing you must realise, here in Aust, is that for any drivers who rent a vehicle, and if those drivers are under 25, you will have to pay quite a sum, per rental, extra.

Just because you are under 25.

If you book online, they will ask for your date of birth. If you book at an office, they will want to see your passport.

So, its quite easy to rent, if you can drive, as you do, but your rental experience will see you pay a lot more than if you were just to catch the bus or train or fly.

More expensive holiday, meaning less money for other things, unless you have large pockets, so to speak.

On the east coast, there are lots of motorways, so driving will be similar to the UK, ie, fast & hectic.

In a lot of places, there might not be a place to park a large camper, as some commercial carparks don't have too high a ceiling level to accomdate campers.

Anyway, enjoy your trip down to Antipodea.

Ps. Don't rent while in the UK for Aust, as your rental deposit could be taken in UK GBP, better to phone the company once you have arrived, and pay the deposit in AUD.

As for parking, you can go and stay in the commmercial caravan parks, and pay about $15 or so, for a powered site, ie, you just drive in, and have access to bathrooms & toilets & electricity.

You can save a bit if you have an unpowered site, ergo, you use a generator for electricity.

Parking in a bush setting, off the main road, can be done, but its a bit slightly problematic.

(((Are you going to poo or pee in the bush, I am sure people do it, but it does wreck the natural environment of Aust's bush))). If you decide to free camp that is.
