Calcutta - Hotel Diplomat, has good rooms with T.V. AT 300RPS. Hotel Paragon, Stuart Lane, (just off Sudder) has dorms at 80/100 or rooms 200/250. The beggars/ tout situation has increased greatly since my last visit, with some being very aggressive, be careful both day and night. Blue Sky cafe, is best of bunch.
