Hi there,
I'm a trainee journalist with a UK institution. I'm originally from Burma but have lived in away for the past 6 years before coming to the UK last year. I'm currently writing a story on holidaying in Burma and really keen on exploring where and how to draw the ethical lines in deciding on where to go for holidays. There's been a campaign here in the UK urging people to boycott from travelling to Burma. There are two trains of thought:- 1. It's a despot regime and if you travel there, you are just supporting the regime as the money only go to the government so you shouldn't go there. 2. It's important to go and see for yourself how the country is, and there are ways to ensure the money goes to the citizens and not the government. It is important not to isolate the citzens. Would really appreciate your thoughts on this matter. |
