We're going to be in Thailand next year, and then going on to Laos. After that, ultimately, we're aiming for Nepal. I've been trying to chart an overland route, up into China and across to Tibet, eventually ending up in Kathmandhu, but it's looking as though the logistics of getting through China are fairly overwhelming (not to mention the expense of actually getting into Tibet !).

Could anybody offer any advice, a brief itinerary or, better still, links to sites containing a travelogue or details of the journey ?

Day 1:Beijing Arrival in Beijing by international flight,meeting at the airport,transfer to hotel,lunch,afternoon visit the Temple of Heaven,overnight in Beijing.

Day 2:Beijing City tour:Forbidden City,Tiananmen Square,lunch,Summer Palace,overnight in Beijing.

Day 3:Beijing Excursion to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs with lunch,overnight in Beijing.

Day 4:Beijing/Chengdu Transfer to airport,fly to Chengdu,arrival and transfer to hotel,lunch,afternoon visit the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu and Marquis Wu Shrine,overnight in Chengdu.

Day 5:Chengdu/Lhasa Transfer to airport and fly to Lhasa,arrival and transfer to hotel,without lunch,afternoon a complete rest for acclimatization,overnight in Lhasa.

Day 6:Lhasa City tour: Patala Palace,Sera Monastery,Norbulingka Park,with lunch,overnight in Lhasa.

Day 7:Lhasa City tour:Drepung Monastery,Jolkhang Temple and Barkhor Streets with lunch,overnight in Lhasa.

Day 8:Lhasa-Gyantse Transfer to Gyantse by car.On the road,visit the Yamdrok Yumtso Lake,Karola Pass,arrival in Gyantse and visit the Baiju Monastery and Wanfo Tower,lunch included,overnight in Gyantse.

Day 9:Gyantse-Shigatse Transfer to Shigatse by car.Arrival and visit Tashilumbu Monastery,lunch included,overnight in Shigatse.

Day 10:Shigase-Tingri Transfer to Tingri by car.On the road,visit the Sakya Monastery,lunch,arrival in Tingri and overnight in Tingri.

Day 11:Tingri-Zhangmu Transfer to Zhangmu by car.Sightseeing on the road,lunch included,overnight in Zhangmu.

Day 12:Zhangmu-Nepal Go through the exit formalities at Zhangmu Customs with no lunch.At the Nepal/Tibet border our vehicle and staff will meet you and transfer
