Hi,
Im in the process of organising my first RTW trip starting next September. It would be great if you could let me know your thoughts of my plan so far! Is this the right order in wich to see the countries etc? After visiting India for a few weeks i'm planning to fly into Singapore where i'll stop off for a few days to take in the city. From there i was thinking of exploring Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos & then back into Thailand. I have no real time limits but was thinking a month would be a good judgment for Cambodia, Vietnam & Laos. I would then spend a good few months exploring Thailand and its surrounding islands relaxing on the beaches, diving, partying etc. This part of my journey would end with a flight out of Bangkok to Austrailia for the next adventure to take place... Over all im looking to spend a year travelling and have no time constraints. It will come down to money at the end of the day, but hopefully this shouldnt restrict me too much as a would have been saving for over a year and a half now. I know its all a bit vague but any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Hannah |

hi there. ... you will have the time of your life , in those places . as for lao veitnam and cambodia you would need 2 months for the 3 of them , you could go to lao for 3 weeks and veitnam for 3 as well and then cambodia for the remaining 2 , singapore say 4days here stay in a place called little india great place for meeting other travellers and cheap for sleep and food the place where i stoped was called the inn crowd i think ,its a hostel and costs,18 singapore dollars in 2004 about 6 qiud a night with a breakfast , its a good place to meet people a soft landing you could say , in india if you go in sept try to go to kashmir and fly up and get the bus back one of the best trips you will ever do , if you are 24 or under you will get a reduced rate in dehli ... i failed to get due to being 29 at the time :-(
you could spends months in india , i would say that in these countrys maybe apart from singapore you could get by on 10 pounds a day and thats for everything , ozz is very different , iam going to live there in a few months just got my residents visa should be fun , but anyway in thailand go to ko pagn ngan island and then go tothong nai pan beach its the best in thailand ive been back say 8 times now , what might help as well is get a lonely planet as you go round in each country easy to pick up and flog on the way , i could write lots more but its nice to find out for yourself and surpraises are always nicepaulmarchington@hotmail.com here is my mail if you want more advise paul |

Since Thailand is a place that you will be spending some time in, (and the place you plan to fly out of) you might want to consider going there right after India. Sometimes a round trip ticket is almost the same price as a one-way ticket.
If you are from the U.S., UK, Australia, Germany, most EU countries, Canada or several other countries you will get a free 30 day entry permit at the airport in Bangkok. Enjoy some time in Thailand and then leave around the 29th day and go to another country before the 30 days runs out. This way when you return to Thailand you will get another free 30 days. There is a limit of no more than 90 days in a 180 day period though. From Thailand you could fly to Singapore (hotels and living expenses are higher than Thailand or India) and return to Bangkok. Stay in Thailand for a while and eventually make your way to the border with Laos or Cambodia overland, transportation within Thailand is cheap and efficient. Explore Laos and Cambodia and possibly a side trip from there to Vietnam. Dreaming is the easy part, now you have to figure out how much you can spend for lodging each day and how much you can blow partying. Have fun. Go cheap - go often! |
