Hi,

I'm planning to travel around SE Asia for 10 weeks this summer- end of june, july and august. I wanted to travel in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Loas, and also vist a friend in Malaysia.

What route would people recommend and how long should I spend in each country? Have I got long enough?

Thanks!!

Both Thailand and Malaysia have some good transportation networks.

I would buy my round trip ticket to either Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur and begin my trip and end it in the same place.

You can use local transportation that you get after you arrive. My preference if fly to BKK first and then travel to the other countries and end up in BKk for the ride back home.

There are discount airlines that you can use to save time. Rail service is pretty good. You can take buses from Thailand to the Cambodia and Laos borders if you want.

Is 10 weeks enough, depends on what you want to do. Too often I read travel forum posts where the traveler has much less time and want to see more places.

If you don't see everything don't worry about it. It's not a race, see what you want at a pace that is comfortable and within your budget allowance. You can always return for another trip at a later date.

Sign up for the frequent flyer program that the airline has so the next trip you may be able to upgrade for free!

Good luck.

Go cheap - go often!

Just wanted to let you know about a great hotel in Jaipur, Rajastan in India. It is in the Lonely Planet but not in the Rough Guide. It is called the Krishna Palace E 26 Durga Marg, Bani Park which is 10 minutes walk from the railway station and near to the Shahpura House Hotel. The telephone number is 2201395 and Mr Vinod will collect you. The web site address is www.krishnapalace.com.
We liked it because it is just off the beaten track, so nice and quiet and clean with comfy beds and great hot showers.
The food is also fab and friendly staff. Excellent value for money! From our experience in India, we would highly recommend this guest house.
