Hi, we just returned from a great 10 day trip to Sri Lanka. We got a driver with a car who was fabulous. His name is Sanath Gunarathna and he's based in Kandy (but can meet you in Colombo). He can also arrange hotels. He was warm, charming, spoke good English, knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with. He also seemed to dislike the touts who offered him commissions and didn't suggest us going to any stores which I understand is a rarity among Sri Lankan guides. He charged us $50 a day for the gas, his time, car etc, unlimited mileage. We looked into this and it seemed to be the going rate. He can be reached at sanathgunarathna@yahoo.com
