Hi - we are looking for somewhere to fly to from Singapore within easy reach of islands and relaxation, preferably not too developed and touristy, where we can chill out for perhaps a week (perhaps on a couple of different islands) before moving on to Bangkok (or another stop en route to BK). So somewhere within relatively easy reach of Bangkok would be great.

Was considering Penang (current favourite) or Koh Samui. Then get the train up to Bangkok.

Is there anywhere in Cambodia or Vietnam we should consider?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Jamie and Lou

I think you will find tourists just about anywhere you go in SouthEastAsia, especially near beaches.

For something different you can try Sirhanoukville Cambodia. I haven't been there yet but it is on my list of places to visit.

If your intent is to simply get a tan you can do that just about anywhere in Thailand, even Bangkok or Chiang Mai! You don't have to be at a beach to get a tan.

Good luck.

Preferably not too touristy and then go to Penang? You could try Pangkor Islandif you dont want to go too touristy. Koh Samui is ONE huge tourist trip with few locals left there (well, I am exaggerating a little, but it's VERY touristic)

Sihanoukville is nice. But I guess if you visit Cambodia you want to see Angkor .
