I plan to go to Cuba in Feb for a month on my own and would like any inside info that would be useful!
I'm 51 and thought originally that being middle aged would be some protection against local romeos but have just spent 2 months in Cyprus having to deal with curb crawling disgusting old men despite being dressed in long covering up clothes and I'm not blonde either!! I have to admit it did just spoil my time there a bit.!!

My brother went to Cuba twice this year for 2 weeks each and loved it. I forwarded him your question and he gave the folowing feedback: Attacks on tourists are unheard of. Cuba is very safe contrary to American beliefs about Cuba. I found it easier to travel via Toronto than Cancun. Casa particulares are the way to stay. I hope to post on www.infowhere.org the information for the ones I stayed at.I’d see Havana, Trinidad and Cienfeugos for my first visit. It is a perfect mix. The Viazul bus system is excellent, air-conditioned and runs on time. You should have no problem as a female solo traveller, just take normal common sense precautions and you'll be fine.

I've been interested in doing a bike tour in Cuba for a long time. At the moment I don't know of anyone that can get away and join me on a trip. Is it safe to bicycle around the countryside by yourself? Anybody else interested in going? I was thinking of going possibly in June or July 2004, but am not sure how the weather is that time of year.

Different countries, different cultures. We must not forget that. Just be indifferent. In a lot of countries you get men teasing women, but it usually mounts up to nothing.
I had men following me all over Florence Italy (very annoying) and men touching me with the back of their hands in Cairo Egypt ... ok that last one was a bit difficult to be indifferent too, but as I said being indifferent is probably the best way to avoid them.
I also found that beauty or age plays no role in these societies.

I stayed in Cuba last year with my girlfriend, she often went out and about on her own and never had any problems.
She is blonde and under 25 so I would have thought she would have been hassled. The Cuban's are very respectful.
You will get some hassle in Havana, but only to buy Cigars and to stay at that persons Casa Paticulares.
Enjoy your time there, it's a very different country to anywhere I have been before..... and the Mojito's are great !!!
