Hi,
Am a 34 year old just about to buy a RTW ticket for a year's travel starting in Sept taking in southern africa, NZ and SE Asia and have never travelled on my own. Feel equal parts determined and excited as well as petrified! My main anxiety is about meeting other people - particularly my age. I've stayed in a number of hostels in south africa which, although all lovely people, were crammed full of 18 year old gap students. Now I'm up for a party as much as the next person, but I was wondering if any other solo women travellers have found other types of accom that may have more thirty-something travellers as well? Or if there were any websites you know about...? Thanks! And no offence to any gap year students - you're all fab. Just can't keep up the pace any more... |

I'd say it is ok to travel to NZ alone as I have read people meet older people there all the time. I am not too sure of Asia and Africa but if you wanted to then go on an arranged tour that would give time to yourself to explore but at teh same time you wouldn't have to worry about such things as meeting other travellers the same age as you. There are www.guerba.co.uk or www.dragoman.com which are good options.

Hi
Don't worry about it. You'll find most of the people travelling RTW are the as you. I'm just travelling round SE Asia and was worried about the same thing. Most of the people I've been meeting seem to be more my age maybe a little younger. Just remember to keep your stuff with you and try and go on a few trips booked locally. Their great ways of meeting other travellers. I've been in Hanoi a few days and found nearly everyone I've met is doing a similary route to me. Good luck. Let me know how it goes. I'm also really jealous. I could only afford 3 months in South East Asia. DC4569 |

If you continue to chat, I am sure that you will be advised about particular destinations, restaurants, hostels, by other travelers. Take some of the advice of a few of the non-gap year travelers and you will be sure to surround yourself with people your own age. Also, many gap year travelers venture to party locations... if you are looking for art, culture, and history... you may already be surrounding yourself with a different set of people.

Hakuna Matata.
It will never be a problem, i agree to one of the members in this forum that most of the travellers in SE Asia are the same as your age or perhaps they might be from your place as well. If you're into diving, snorkeling, and the like.. As well as a sea lover or somebody who likes feeling the ocean breeze, i have one suggestion for you...Captngreggs is the place to be. I just went there with my diving buddies and yes, i assure you that its a good place, wherein people from all walks of life meet and celebrate. If you're afraid to party, why not explore what's underneath? Have that underwater experience like you've never had before. hahaha. Anyway, you can send some messages to me if you'll like and im willing to talk about everything under the sun. There's nothing to hide, remember: AGE DOESN'T MATTER. lovelots, Lea (just turned ___1, i guess its never too late to be young huh?!) Lea Dimalanta lea@captngreggs.com |
