I am currently planning a RTW trip leaving home in January, going to America, SOuth Pacific, NZ, Oz, SIngapore, Bangkok, Japan. I am going on my own, and as a young female traveller, was just wondering how other single female travellers managed, whether they had any problems. If you could pass on ur wisdom i would be most grateful! Emma.

I have travelled on my own as a single female round Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand and Cambodia. I have never had any major difficulties but I am always far more cautious when travelling alone. In Asia I didn't really go out alone after about 7pm - I tended to eat in hostels or hotels, or early on. Oz and NZ are fine, stay in hostels and you'll meet people to hang out with and go out with all the time.I also kept bumping into the same people time after time as we're all doing the same routes! I went to Beachcomber Island in Fiji - a bit of a party island but beautiful and being along was no problem at all - i barely even noticed it! I would be more cautious in Asia, especially in the evenings, but other travellers are always friendly and I would just excersize the same caution as at home - wary of strangers, dark alleys, keep an eye on your luggage etc! Basically if you're staying in backpacker hostels you'll meet more than enough people.
