i want to travel in India at the end of this year but can't decide if i should go on an organised tour or go it alone?
Has anyone travelled through India and could possibly help me?
Do you attract a lot of attention being a single female?
or any one out there that has just been travelling alone for the first time?

You do. Unless you know someone there who could show you around, I would suggest that you go with a tour. I'm not big on tours myself, but in this case, you will find it useful.

I went alone to India (a few years ago now) and found it very easy to meet people in the same situation.
I think almost every visitor to India attracts a lot of attention. It can be less annoying if you're with other people, but it still happens.
India is a pretty safe country in terms of crime, as whilst there are a million rip-offs nad hassles, and the expected level of pick-pocketing, it is very very unlikely you'll encounter any sort of violent crime.
