hi schoolgirl
i'm scottish studying in scotland but have also done loads of travelling in the US and I don't think you'll find it too much of a culture shock. Scotland is a really safe country and lone woman travellers won't have any problems. I guess you're going to glasgow (where i am), edinburgh or st Andrews; all are really pretty and i'd recomend visiting all three. Edinburgh has loads of historical stuff like the castle, my friend recommends the vaults which are supposed to be really scary. If you want to check out all that braveheart stuff head to Stirling and the wallace monument, it's about half an hour from glasgow. st andrews is really small, like a little coastal town, very quaint and lots of shops with pringle jumpers etc. it really caters for the american tourist. St A's may have a prince but there's nae nightlife! for clubs and good bars head to glasgow where the folk live for the weekend and vodka iron brew's (it'll all make sense when you're here) also if you want to flex your credit card this is the place to do it as the shopping's great. Transport's good in the central belt (glasgow, edinburgh etc) but if you want to see the highlands and the mountains its not so good but it is possible to get up there. Also some people like to get a boat and see some of the islands like Skye and Arran, very picturesque. hope you have a great time when you're here |
