I have just found this wicked site that has just helped me find someone to go to The Ice Palace with. I'm amazed, I had posted messages on various sites with absolutely no luck and though that I would never find a female travel mate who wanted to go and freeze for a holiday! The site is really funky and dead easy to use and seems to have all different age groups and types of folk. Its even given me some new ideas of different places to go check out. its at www.companions2travel.co.uk, see what you reckon.

I have registered on the website Companion2travel.co.uk. However, I am still a bit anxious about travelling with people I don't know. As you were looking on this specific website, I assume that you have been looking for others to travel with.
I have never been travelling properly before so I'm reluctant to do it alone.
How are you feeling about travelling with strangers?

I have a big question, whether I will really enjoy travelling alone for a month in a completely unfamiliar place. I talked with an English friend who had lived in Europe, and he said I'd better not go alone in Europe. He said it might be OK 20-30 years ago, but not today. He said I'd better go with someone I really know, not just someone I just met.

What do u say?

and I am travelling alone RTW in three weeks :) The thing is 20, 30 years ago things that could go wrong (i.e. criminals) are still the same as things now only it was less heard of back then. Things are more heard of now due to the fact that they have technology such as internet, email etc. and Sky TV so you hear the news more often and people are now more aware - which I would say is a good thing and better than to go say 20,30 years ago when no-one was aware of much or it was all 'hush hush' so to speak. I'd say if you look and act vigilant and respect other cultures there is no reason atall why you shouldn't be able to travel around safely and have fun!! :)

I've travelled a fair few times on my own - from studios in Cannes to Yoga retreats near Rome (and Rome itself), skiing and sailing.

I did organise a group skiing adventure last year, it was okay - the group didn't gel brilliantly but most of us had a good time - it did inspire me to set up my own website to assist solo skiers in getting away via a forum and listings of chalets that didn't charge a single supplement (Pistepals.com)

I find that's the unfairest thing of all - having to pay 25-50% more just because you are on your own.

Watch out for companies like Neilson - they are brilliant for going on your own as instructors and fellow guests make you feel very welcome. often they don't charge single supps either.

ps just realised this topic is ANCIENT! lol.

will find something a bit more recent!
